In Giappone per un film sulla pace, un'attrice francese ha una relazione appassionata con un architetto giapponese. Quest'amore le ricorda quello che durante la guerra ebbe nella natia Nevers con un giovane soldato tedesco, ucciso sotto i suoi occhi.
