Sembra solo una leggenda metropolitana. Un videotape con immagini terrificanti: chi lo guarda riceve una misteriosa telefonata che annuncia la sua morte esattamente sette giorni dopo. La giornalista Rachel Keller è, come tutti i suoi colleghi, scettica al riguardo, ma quando quattro adolescenti muoiono uno dopo l'altro in circostanze poco chiare, una settimana dopo aver visto il videotape, la sua curiosità ha il sopravvento.
