Quarto e nuovo album solista di David Gilmour, Rattle That Lock viene pubblicato per Columbia Records.Il lavoro è prodotto dallo stesso Gilmour e da Phil Manzanera dei Roxy Music.A firmare buona parte dei testi di Rattle That Lock è Polly Samson, storica collaboratrice e compagna di vita di Gilmour.L'artwork è stato invece curato da Dave Stansbie di The Crative Corporation, sotto la direzione artistica di Aubrey Powell (Hipgnosis).Il singolo omonimo anticipa l'album ed è un brano introdotto dalle stesse note, create da Michael Boumendil, che precedono gli annunci delle ferrovie francesi SNCF; il testo della Samson tare ispirazione dal libro secondo del Paradiso perduto di John Milton.
