Morti misteriose si succedono al St. Mark's Hospital. Stephen Rowland ha appena perso la figlia dopo una semplice risonanza magnetica. Una morte inspiegabile. Le ipotesi dei medici non sono convincenti: la macchina utilizzata per questo esame ha già ucciso altre volte. Stephen decide di fare luce sull'accaduto ma si imbatte presto in un muro impenetrabile. I dirigenti dell'ospedale ostacolano in ogni modo le sue ricerche. La dottoressa O'Brian, che ha curato la bimba, decide di aiutare Stephen e insieme iniziano ad indagare sugli strani fatti che accadono attorno a quella macchina e a un possibile virus informatico.
