In un commosso ma divertito omaggio ai pionieri del cinematografo, Wenders racconta l'avventura dei fratelli berlinesi Max, Emil ed Eugen Skladanowsky. Messo a punto un proprio apparecchio, il Bioskop, il primo novembre 1895 al Wintergarten di Berlino mostrarono pubblicamente immagini in movimento. Pur avendo preceduto di quasi due mesi la più celebre proiezione dei fratelli Lumière, vennero condannati all'oblio dalla superiorità tecnica dell'invenzione dei rivali francesi.
