Quando il liceale Charley decide di frequentare un programma di studio in Romania con l'amico "Evil" Ed, ossessionato dall'horror e l'ex-fidanzata Amy, ben presto scopre che la loro giovane e attraente professoressa Gerri è un vampiro vero. Peccato che nessuno gli crede. In realtà, Evil Ed lo trova divertente e tutto questo alimenta la sua ossessione per i vampiri. Quando Gerri trasforma Ed, Charley chiede aiuto a Peter Vincent, il famigerato cacciatore di vampiri (beh, ne interpreta uno in TV) che è in Romania per le riprese del suo show "Fright Night", per insegnargli a uccidere Gerri prima che catturi Amy, il cui sangue curerà Gerri dal trascorrere l'eternità come un vampiro.
