Nel 1965 il deejay Adrian Cronauer viene trasferito in Vietnam per risollevare il morale dei soldati USA. Il suo obiettivo: farli ridere. Adrian ha una idea tutta sua su come impostare una trasmissione radiofonica. Il suo umorismo fatto di irresistibili battute e tanto rock'n roll, inonda l'etere portando una ventata di novità, ma la nuova filosofia della trasmissione non è gradita al Pentagono.
