Hannibal Lecter vive in un orfanotrofio perché ha perso i genitori e gli è rimasto un unico parente:un lontano zio che abita a Parigi. Hannibal in seguito agli orrori a cui è stato costretto ad assistere durante la guerra non parla più. Questo fatto gli rende ancora più difficile la vita in orfanotrofio tanto che, appena riesce, fugge da quel luogo. Si precipita a Parigi ma scopre che lo zio è morto e a prendersi cura di lui da quel momento sarà la sua vedova.
