Il film è ambientato in Inghilterra nel XII secolo. Un agricoltore,Ralph Gower (Barry Andrews), mentre sta arando un campo scopre un cranio deformato con uno strano sguardo e coperto da pellicce. Così avverte il giudice locale (Patrick Wymark), ma quando poi tornano nel posto in cui il contadino aveva trovato il cranio questo non c’è più. Il giudice allora non tiene minimamente conto delle strane paure di Ralph. In seguito, varie persone si interessano alle voci di questo potere soprannaturale. Una donna e dei bambini che hanno trovato il cranio iniziano a comportarsi in maniera strana.
