Un bandito mascherato, che si fa chiamare El Azote, terrorizza con la sua frusta un'intera regione del West. Uno sceriffo e il suo aiutante, spacciandosi anch'essi per criminali, cercano di infiltrarsi nella banda di El Azote per smascherarne la vera identità.Il richiamo a Zorro è presente solo nel titolo italiano, perché il vero eroe del film è Lash La Rue, cowboy protagonista di una fortunata serie che proseguì dal 1948 al 1952. Il personaggio sarà uno dei modelli a cui George Lucas si ispirerà per il suo Indiana Jones.
