Un anziano contadino, giunto avventurosamente all'ospedale militare in cui il figlio dovrebbe essere ricoverato, viene a sapere che costui è già guarito e ripartito per il fronte. Quando vi arriva il ragazzo si è spinto oltre, ed egli lo tallona combattendo valorosamente; lo raggiunge al termine di un attacco durante il quale il ragazzo è rimasto gravemente ferito, appena in tempo per vederlo morire.
