Le truppe naziste battono in ritirata incalzate dai partigiani. Rubino, militante socialista e sostenitore della lotta armata contro i tedeschi, si scontra con il vicebrigadiere Salvo d'Acquisto che preferisce rimanere fra la gente per aiutarla e difenderla.
