Vienna, seconda metà dell'Ottocento. L'acclamato illusionista Eisenheim (Edward Norton) incanta le platee con i suoi incredibili trucchi. E' l'artista del momento. Ha persino catturato l'interesse del Principe Leopold e della sua fidanzata Sophia (Jessica Biel), un tempo legata sentimentalmente allo stesso Eisenheim.
