Storia di tre soldati americani a bordo di un vascello neutrale finlandese durante la guerra coreana. Ai tre (il Sergente P.J. Briscoe e i soldati Dennison e Hackett) è stato dato l'ordine di giustiziare un prigioniero che hanno a bordo. Gli uomini vacillano di fronte all'idea di eseguire tale compito e prima uno e poi l'altro rifiutano di seguire l'ordine.
