Undine lavora come storica presso il Märkisches Museum di Berlino, dove spiega ai visitatori i plastici che raffigurano la città nei suoi progressivi stadi evolutivi. Undine, che è appena stata lasciata da Johannes, conosce il sommozzatore Christoph del quale s'innamora perdutamente. Questo nuovo amore permette alla donna di rinvigorirsi e ricostruire se stessa, proprio come la sua Berlino, la città che non si è mai spezzata.
