Basato sul famoso libro “Denial: Holocaust History on Trial” di Deborah E. Lipstadt, il film racconta della battaglia legale intrapresa dall’autrice, contro il negazionista David Irving, che negava l'Olocausto e che citò la scrittrice in giudizio per diffamazione. Il sistema legale britannico prevede in questi casi che l'onere della prova spetti all'imputato; toccò quindi a Lipstadt e al suo gruppo di avvocati guidato da Richard Rampton provare una verità fondamentale, ovvero che l'Olocausto, uno degli eventi più gravi e significativi del XIX secolo, era tutt'altro che un'invenzione.
