Live at the Village Vanguard (Impulse AS-10) che fu il primo album dal vivo ufficiale di Coltrane. In questo live registrato al Village Vanguard di New York il 2 e 3 Novembre 1961, Coltrane è accompagnato dai veterani McCoy Tyner al piano, Elvin Jones alla batteria, mentre al contrabbasso si alternano Jimmy Garrison e Reggie Workman. Su un brano compare anche lo straordinario Eric Dolphy al clarinetto basso. Questo album è stato inserito dal critico Len Lyons tra i migliori 101 album jazz di sempre, in particolare per la straordinaria versione di Chasin The Trane.
