Molti appassionati considerano Lady in Satin (Columbia CS-8048), lultimo grande album di Billie Holiday e lei stessa amava molto questo disco. Registrato a New York nel febbraio del 1958, poco più di un anno prima della sua morte, il disco ci presenta Billie Holiday con una voce priva dello smalto di un tempo, un po rauca e poco estesa ma assolutamente intensa e dalla elevatissima qualità artistica prova della duttilità del suo talento. La diva è qui accompagnata da Miles Davis, Urbie Green, Jack Green, J. J. Johnson, Tom Mitchell, Mal Waldron, Barry Galbraith, Milt Hinton e Osie Johnson fra altri.
