Mingus Charles - Presents Charles Mingus (180Gr.)
Nel 1960, il celebre critico jazz Nat Hentoff chiese al contrabbassista Charles Mingus di registrare una serie di sessioni per la sua nuova etichetta Candid, dando a Mingus assoluta libertà. Il risultato della prima sessione fu il celebre album Charles Mingus Presents Charles Mingus (Candid CJM8005). La band è composta da un quartetto senza pianoforte con il trombettista Ted Curson, il sassofonista alto Eric Dolphy (che suona anche il clarinetto basso in un brano), il batterista Dannie Richmond e ovviamente Mingus al contrabbasso. Purtroppo il rapporto di lavoro tra il musicista e la casa discografica fu di breve durata a causa dell'effimera esperienza dell'etichetta, che chiuse sei mesi dopo l'ultima registrazione realizzata da Mingus (per poi rinascere nel 1988 ad opera del produttore Alan Bates).
