Subito dopo che John Coltrane aveva lasciato il suo quartetto e prima dell'arrivo di Charlie Rouse, Thelonious Monk ha formato un gruppo con Johnny Griffin al sax tenore, Ahmed-Abdul Malik al contrabbasso e Roy Haynes alla batteria. Con questo gruppo Monk ha suonato al Five Spot Caf di New York nel 1958. Le registrazioni del gruppo furono poi pubblicate su due album: In Action (Riverside RLP12-262) e Misterioso (Riverside RLP12-279). Il secondo album viene qui presentato con laggiunta di una bonus track registrata da Monk nella stessa location.
