Lalbum The Charles Mingus Quintet Plus Max Roach ha segnato un momento nel quale Mingus ha trovato la sua identità musicale. Il concerto fu registrato al Café Bohemia di New York il 23 dicembre 1955, e il gruppo di Mingus presentò il grande Max Roach come ospite speciale. Ulteriori registrazioni di quel concerto sono state pubblicate col titolo Mingus at the Boemia, mentre altre sono apparse su diverse raccolte. Solo una canzone con Roach è stata inclusa su Mingus at the Bohemia: un duetto nico tra il batterista e il bassista dal titolo Percussion Discussion. Le altre due collaborazioni di quella data (Drums e I'll Remember April) sono apparse solo sull'LP presentato qui. Come bonus è stata aggiunta unalternate take di Drums.
