L'album uscì il 13 giugno 1995, con etichetta Maverick Records e ha venduto, ad oggi, 33 milioni di copie in tutto il mondo. Lo stile del disco è orientato all'alternative rock ed al post-grunge, i due generi si fondono con naturalezza, restando in perfetto equilibrio tra loro mentre i testi sono perlopiù intimistici, interpretati con voce graffiante ed emotiva.
