Concepito originariamente come un remake del film di Akira Kurosawa del 1954 I sette samurai, I magnifici sette (1960) divenne ben presto un successo grazie al suo cast meraviglioso, alla sua sceneggiatura intelligente ed alla splendida musica composta da Elmer Bernstein. Il film, diretto da John Sturges, vede la partecipazione di Yul Brynner, Eli Wallach e Steve McQueen. Nel 2013, il film è stato selezionato per la preservazione nellUnited States National Film Registry dalla Library of Congress per il suo essere culturalmente, storicamente e esteticamente significativi.
