La genesi del film e stata affidata all\'attrice Winona Ryder, che ha voluto fare ammenda con il regista Francis Ford Coppola dopo il suo ritiro tardivo da Il Padrino Parte III. Gli porto una sceneggiatura scritta da James V. Hart, che forni un adattamento del famoso romanzo Dracula del 1897 dello scrittore irlandese Bram Stoker. Coppola decise che voleva un compositore con una sensibilita classica dell\'Europa orientale. Dopo aver ascoltato alcuni brani del collega polacco Wojciech Kilar, Coppola si convinse di aver trovato il suo uomo. Lo chiamo e gli offri l\'incarico, che Kilar accetto volentieri perche era rimasto molto colpito dal successo cinematografico di Coppola. Per il suo paesaggio sonoro, Kilar scelse di utilizzare i leitmotiv tradizionali. Oltre a "Love Song For A Vampire" di Annie Lennox (Eurythmics).
